The past . . .

Assurity's origins date back to 1890, when Dr. A. O. Faulkner saw a need to make accident coverage available to working people - not just the wealthy. Dr. Faulkner's medical practice made him an unwilling spectator to families' financial catastrophes that inevitably followed a tragic illness or accident. The original company, Modern Woodmen Accident Association, began in a one-room office in York, Nebraska, but moved to the Capital city of Lincoln a few months later, where it has been located ever since. Over the next century, the Woodmen company expanded and added products, never losing sight of the promise to provide help to people and families during difficult times. Three separate Woodmen companies were merged to create Woodmen Accident and Life Company in 1954.

In 1997, the Assurity Life Insurance Company was formed as a subsidiary of Woodmen Accident and Life, and in 2001, the two companies were united with the century-old Lincoln Direct Life Insurance Company under a single mutual holding company named Lincoln Insurance Group, Inc.

The present . . .

In 2005, Lincoln Insurance Group and Security Mutual Life Nebraska Holding Co. merged to create a single new holding company, Assurity Security Group Inc. In 2005, Lincoln Direct Life became Assurity Direct, the direct marketing division of Assurity Life.

The future . . .

Assurity now markets life, disability income and critical illness insurance through independent brokers, worksite marketing distributors and direct mail. Assurity will continue to help provide financial security to you, your family or your business.
