New member for Assurity board; one retires

May 10, 2013 – At its annual meeting, Assurity elected Kathleen A. Farrell, senior associate dean of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration and professor of finance, as a new member of the board of directors. Dr. Farrell has achieved a distinguished academic record since joining the UNL College of Business Administration (CBA) faculty in 1993. She has taught courses in corporate finance, managerial finance and bank management. Her research interests include corporate governance and executive compensation.

Retiring from the board was Ronald L. Harris, president of Scientific Development Corp. in Lincoln, who served on the board of directors of Assurity and a predecessor company, Woodmen Accident and Life, for more than 23 years.

Assurity building certified LEED Gold

Henning accepts LEED awardApril 26, 2013 – Assurity Life has received notification that the company's new home office was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED certification program is the internationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of sustainable buildings. Lowell Berg (pictured right) of The Clark Enersen Partners, the architecture and engineering firm for the project, commented, "From the beginning, Assurity made it clear that environmental stewardship was a key goal.... Assurity named one of Lincoln's "Best Places to Work"

April 18, 2013 – Nearly 100 small, medium and large businesses were nominated for awards in a contest sponsored by Woods & Aitken LLP, the Lincoln Journal Star and the Lincoln Human Resources Management Association. Approximately 4000 employees answered survey questions about pay, benefits, job satisfaction and opportunities for advancement, with Assurity Life Insurance Company placing #3 in the Large business category.
